About Frankie
Dr Frankie Dyson Reilly is a Meanjin (Brisbane)-based interdisciplinary composer, pianist, and researcher. Through vivid audio-visual depictions of Australian landscapes and fauna, she seeks to highlight intimate companionships between humans and natural worlds. Her works, which emphasise collaborative creativity and multi-sensory scoring, have been recently commissioned and performed by Soundstream New Music, Harrigans Lane Collective, The Muses Trio, Contra Guitar Duo, Vulcana Women’s Circus, Rebecca Lloyd-Jones, Tura New Music, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Wind Orchestra, and ABODA QLD.
Frankie’s research into colour notation and graphic scoring practices formed the basis of her Doctor of Musical Arts research at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. In 2024, this interdisciplinary practice led to positions as Artist-in-Residence at the Mt. Wilson Old School (NSW), at the Piano Mill in Harrigan’s Lane (NSW), and with the Dots + Loops performance collective (QLD). The residency at Harrigan’s Lane saw the development of a research collaboration with artist-researcher Dr Alexandra Gorton exploring disabled experiences in musical spaces through diverse scoring practices and sensory-friendly sound-making. In 2025, Frankie will continue her research into interdisciplinary art and diversity/equity as a Research Adjunct with the Creative Arts Research Institute at Griffith University (QLD).
Recent projects composition projects include a commission for the 10th anniversary of Easter at the Piano Mill (Fireflies, 2025), premiered by a group of leading Australian pianists and composers; participation in the 2025 Soundstream Emerging Composers forum in collaboration with the Inarma Women's Choir; and a new multi-media soundtrack exploring intersections between AI and disability with Vulcana Women's Circus (Body Code, 2025).
